KC23's Spring Offensive Strategy Guide - Marshalling Yards
Marshalling Yards
One doesn't have to look much further than the Marshalling Yards to
find the heart of the Red's re-supply network. There are several Marshalling
Yards on the Map, but Seoul is clearly the most important. Seoul feeds
the entire West and Central areas of the map, which is where 90% of
all the fighting takes place.
It sounds pretty cut and dry that Marshalling Yards should be a sort
of supply smorgasbord with plenty of meat on the table, but there can
be a high price to be paid for all those tasty treats. My strategy had
always been to concentrate on the bridges leading to and from Seoul
and not risk losing the aircraft to such a well defended site. Then
I chatted with one of the writers here at Frugalsworld (Dbond) and he
taught me that a well thought out attack on Seoul can get you to the
end of the war a good week or so sooner than is otherwise possible.
Step one is to first take out the local airfields before you go anywhere
near Seoul with anything. The last thing you want to see is a flock
of MiGs intercepting your attack group. Once you've eliminated the local
air threats you are ready for Seoul.
You will find that Seoul's AAA threat is at medium only up until you
have hit it. After the very first time you hit Seoul any follow up raids
will be facing Extreme AAA threats. What that means in real numbers
is you'll be facing about 7 anti-air guns instead of 15.
With the AAA threat at medium for only one mission I make sure I do
the most damage possible during that one mission. I use every single
aircraft at my disposal. I attempt to crush the heart of the Red's supply
network in one single massive blow.
Attacking Seoul
The set up is much like that of attacking a supply depot. You want to
Ins Flak suppression flights for both the northwest area as well as
the main Seoul area. Make sure these flights ToT times are approximately
5 minutes prior to the main attack force.
I like to use F84s as my primary attack aircraft because of their superior
firepower.
When setting up the bombers remember to authorize each flight individually
to be sure they hit the different individual targets. If you put several
flights together they'll all drone along after the lead flight and only
hit one specific target and perhaps some collateral damage.
I personally like to always take the lead in the Flak Suppression flight
over the main area of Seoul. My weapons of choice are rockets, but when
I attack the actual Flak emplacements I use my guns. I do this so I
can use my rockets on any loading area or warehouses left by the main
attack groups later on in the mission.
A quick review of how comms works in Flak Suppression missions is perhaps
in order.
Do not worry about your debrief stating that there were 0 tons destroyed
and 0 tons estimated to be left. This appears to perhaps be a bug, but
the dynamic campaign obviously counts Seoul Marshalling Yards as destroyed
and the Red's seem to be weakened on the front lines almost immediately.
Once you've destroyed the Seoul Marshalling Yards you can take over
the first few Red airbases very quickly which allows you to move up
your F84s within striking distance of front line targets without the
need for fuel tanks. This means F84 ground attack missions become devastating
using 32 rockets for each F84 aircraft. The difference in how much faster
you troops move up north is very noticeable.
Once you capture Seoul the Reds defense pretty much collapses and the
Marshalling Yards further north aren't worth the risk of what few aircraft
you'll have left by the time you get that far.
